LeBron James tops 39,000 points as Lakers rout Jazz

The Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Utah Jazz 131-99 on Tuesday night to finish unbeaten in group play of the NBA in-season tournament.

Russell scored 20 points and dished out eight assists for the Lakers, who advanced to the quarterfinal knockout round as one of the top seeds in the tournament.

With 57 percent shooting, Los Angeles' bench scored 64 points, led by Austin Reaves with 19 and Christian Wood with 16.

Utah fell to 2-2 in group play after Omer Yurtseven scored 18 points and John Collins scored 15 points off the bench. 

The Lakers led 11-7 after James scored seven points to become the first NBA player to reach 39,000 points. 

A 15-9 lead led to his substitution, and the Lakers went on to score an 8-0 run to move ahead 20-9.

After James had subbed in, Reaves hit a 3-pointer in transition and then capped the first quarter with a high bank shot to make it 32-17. 

With 8:10 left in the half, the Jazz pulled within single digits at 38-29 when Markkanen sank a 3-pointer to start a 5-0 run.
